Brought out my inner geek last night – hung out in Sheep Meadow, Central Park with the Amateur Astronomers Association of New York. Lots of friendly and knowledgeable blokes with telescopes. I saw the moon close up for the first time and it took my breath away. Snuck a peak at a globular cluster, just about glimpsed a smudge that was the Andromeda galaxy and was entranced by Alberio – a double star about 380 light years away from earth. All this for free.
Puzzled by the slightly Masonic feel of the association’s logo.
